Using flies to understand how brains and behaviors develop
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Shirangi lab is committed to nurturing a culture of equity, inclusion, mutual respect, and dignity. We embrace diversity. Our varied backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences make us strong. But we also know that we can do better. We strive to foster more diversity in where we come from and in how we think. We strive to take anti-racist approach to everything we do. We believe that our actions, however small, yield real power. We pledge to work hard, to create impact, and not just have good intentions, but to actively build a more just and equitable world.
Villanova University resides on the unceded land of the Lenni Lenape peoples
The Shirangi lab acknowledges the Lenape community, their elders both past and present, as well as future generations. The Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania carry the unique history of the Lenape who remained, honor their ancestors and their descendants, and retain the culture and tradition that has been passed down from Lenape elders here in our Commonwealth.
This acknowledgement demonstrates our laboratory's continuing commitment to the process of learning about and then working for the dismantling of all ongoing legacies of oppression.
The Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania has struggled for over thirty years to obtain formal state recognition as the remaining indigenous people of Pennsylvania.
